Alright, i had windows 2000 installed in my computer and wanted to go to windows XP but it told me i couldn't upgrade and such. So i installed XP but had 2 O/S and didn't awnt that. So to make a long story short i'm an idiot and now i have a nothing on my harddrive. I can't, for some reason, make the 6 windows XP boot disks because almost every floppy i have has an error when writing. I don't know how to fix this and i don't have enough floppys. When i use the "XP boot" floppy it boots up and i navigate to i386/winnt.exe but it gives me a message saying it could not find a place for a swap file and it couldn't continue. I really need help on this. How can i make it so i can install windows XP? I do not have a bootable windows XP disk. I'll need to someone made bootable floppys or something. HELP MEEEE please.

All Windows XP cds are bootable, so it appears you have a warez copy.

No help from me.

Start by cleaning your HD fully.

I shall send you my boot zip, copy the contents of the zip file onto a freshly formatted floppy.

Put the floppy in the drive & start the comp.

Change your bios to boot from the floppy 1st.

Save & exit, it will now boot to an A prompt.

Type in, wipeout c: /nq /np & press Enter.

Now run fdisk to set up partitions.

When done, reboot & format.

After formatting, put your XP cd in the drive, change the bios to boot from the cd 1st, save & exit.

If you are referring to Response Number 5.

No, you need to read the answers.

Nothing to do with a floppy, put your XP cd in & boot.

Try this boot with a windows 98 floppy, select with cd support....then when its through booting to the A prompt. Select the letter that was assigned to your cdrom drive.
Go to the i386 folder on the windows cd and type winnt.exe this will start the install of XP.

oh one for thing if you try to install windwos xp this way. Make sure there is a copy of smartdrv.exe on the windows 98 floppy and be sure and load this before you try to install windows xp from dos. If you dont load smartdrv.exe it will take hours for Windows to copy the files to your harddrve.
