Problem loading sites and images

Specs: Windows XP Pro SP3, 2 GB
I am running XP SP3 and generally use IE7 but sometimes firefox.

FOr the past two weeks, I cannot log into hotmail (although messenger is fine) and some images aren't loading on facebook. There are a few other random sites I'm having a hard time connecting to...either really slow or they won't load at all. I have updated virus protection and use the general windows firewall. Some things I've tried...

-run adaware
-emptied all cookies, temp internet files, history, etc
-tried opening all of the above pages with firefox...same issues
-checked security and privacy settings...nothing has been changed
-there are no exceptions listed under load images automatically
-I've restarted the computer a million times

This is an issue with this computer only as I'm not having either problem at work. I would appreciate all suggestions.

paula2809, couple of thoughts, both SWAGs. First thing I'd do is take a look at security settings. M$ has an annoying habit of changing them to 'hi'. Maybe when you got SP3?
Next is the 'slow'. Possible you need to clear 'index.dat'? A common ailment is a file called 'index.dat'. It's like a log file and keeps a record of every site you visit on the web. Empty, it's 32K, but it can grow HUGE. It's a protected file and can't be deleted by normal methods. CCleaner (free @: http://www.ccleaner.com/) can get rid of it (not to worry, it gets rebuilt EMPTY on the next boot.).
