Dear all,
I recently installed win xp. I have problem installing some software which was competable with win 98 or 95. when I tried for example to install oxford dictionary I recieved the following message: "setup caused a general protection fault in model KRNL386.exe at 0001:2452"

Have you tried Forced Compatibility ? Right click on exe file of the prog you want to install, select properties and open the Compatibility Tab. You can choose the OS you require from there.
