hey when i go to control panel , then add/remove programs a message pops up at the title bar it says Viruscan: avsmcpa.lll, and then it says "the specified resource languatge ID cannot be found in the image file. Then it lists these five files....
C:/windows/system32/res0901/avsmcpa.dll: the specified module could not be found
C:/windows/system32/res0900/avsmcpa.dll : the specified module could not be found
C:/windows/system32/res09/avsmcpa.dll : the specified module could not be found
C:/windows/system32/res0000/avsmcpa.dll " the specified module could not be foudn
C:/windows/system32/res00/avsmcpa.dll : the specified module could not be found
.... Then i hit ok and it goes into the add/remove programs screen correctly, but im sick of seeing that message everytime i go into it, i think i may have uninstalled mcafee virus scan incorrectly, i Installed it again and then un installed but the same message keeps popping up , does anyone know what i could do to get rid of it or what it is

I have the same problem with control panel as well, McAfee should be shot!! If you know how to get rid of this please let me know

I agree with Frank what we should do to McAfee. I have the very same problem. Mine started after upgrading Win98SE to Windows XP Professional. Although uninstalled McAfee before upgrading, McAfee still listed in "Add/Remove Programs" and it cannot be uninstalled from there. Not even possible to reinstall, nor to install another virusscanner. McAfee simply seems to mess everything. Any solutions?

I had the same problem until I went to the McAffee help. They have a multi-step process to manually uninstall McAfee and ALL components. I found about 2 out of eleven still on my machine. Here's the Web page:
http://www.mcafeehelp.com/
Then click search and type avsmcpa. It will pull up manual uninstall instructions for every version and OS.

The problem is not the antivirus, the problem is not following instructions, when you upgrade from win/98 to XP or 2000 , you have to uninstall any antiviruses and this is clearly explain in the instructions.

Hey Jim I figured it out. If you go to the system folder and rename the AVSMCPA.cpl file and restart your computer it should be OK. I know the file that is being referenced is AVSMCPA.dll but this is the file that connects itself to the control panel. Try it and let me know how it goes. It worked for me.

OK Here's How To Fix The Problem.
First in Mcafee, Then Goto Window's - System Folder.
Now in the system folder you will see a folder with the words Res00 Copy this folder
to your desktop (Not as a short cut) Just Go To edit And copy & paste the file to your desktop. Now uninstall mcafee goto back to windows - system folder and repaste the Res00 folder back from where you got it.
Now the Message will go.
From Joe
