... it's not that Windows won't detect my new hardware, it's that it won't STOP detecting my new hardware. I installed a SmartJoy Plus adapter, which is a USB-device that allows me to use a PlayStation controller on my PC. The adapter itself works just fine, but every time I unplug it and plug it back in, or start up my computer while it's already plugged in, Windows comes up with the "New Hardware Detected" window, asking if it can connect to Windows Update to search for drivers, etc., and it's getting a bit annoying.
Is there any humane way to get Windows to stop asking me to install software that has already been installed repeatedly?

I've had the same thing happen with hardware installs in XP. One time going on-line and updating the driver to the newest release fixed the problem for me. The other times it just stopped asking by itself in a few days.
Not much help I know. :)
