I'm having a problem burning dvds. The software I'm using is Magic DVD Copier, which I have used successfully in the past, I've also tried Roxio DigitalMedia SE. Both programs give a burn error near the end of the burn process. In the FAQ for Magic DVD Copier it recommends trying a slower write speed, but no luck with that either. I tried updating drivers for the drive, but it says they're aren't any better ones that what I have.
I really don't know where to begin to solve this, I feel like I'm just making a bunch of expensive coasters (they're dual layer disks).

I use 4.7 Gb DVD-R with a shrink program first followed by a burn one. When you are not sure about the final result you can burn to a 4.7 Gb DVD-RW and make sure the end product can be played on any DVD players you have. You can save the images for later use or erase them later on.
When size of an image is too large you remove some sound selections like 5.1 or alternate languages you will never use for bilingual or trilingual movies.I use DVDShrink followed by ImgBurn.
Your program is doing just about the same thing but if you can't use a rewritable media for some tests you will never be happy with it in the long run.

Testing on a rewritable doesn't solve the problem though, I would just be doing to same thing over and over, sounds like wasted effort. I don't know what to try to test it, change some settings or something? I need some options to test it with, not just that I should test it.

It is the drive that came factory in the laptop and has worked before. It is a Mats---a UJ-850 in a Sony Vaio.
Media is HP DVD+R DL 2.4x discs, I haven't had a single success with these discs in my laptop (though they work in my HP desktop). But had the same problem at least once with the Maxwell DVD-R (single layer) discs I had before, though I did have successes with those.
Do you think it could be the media isn't compatible? It burns until the end (I'm assuming where the lead out would start) before it gives an error and ejects. The only re-writable discs I have to try are HP also.

Maybe the drive is not dual layer capable?
Just a wild guess here... as I never encountered a problem like this myself.

It was just purchased in late November.
I've decided that something must be wrong with this whole pack of discs. I tried them in my desktop HP computer and received the same errors. I am able to burn to HP DVD+RW discs on my laptop with the same programs and no problems, so nothing appears to be wrong with the drives burning capabilities. I'm just going to try to return the discs to Office Max.
