A friend of mine has 3 "disks" (one in 3 parts) and after using PartitionMagic 8.0 in order to combine 2 of them, and asking to change the paths (instead of typing C:// is should write D://) the paths didn't change and after using the floppy disk in order to do the opposite procedure nothing happened... So now the pc doesn't "recognise" anything... Is there any way to recover from this?? He also doesn't have the CD of Windows XP...

Path is c:\ or d:\. Important to know. \\ [not //] is for unc [universal naming convention]pathing [not quite the same thing as local environment path.
Without the XP cd and a repair reinstall there is absoluting nothing you can do. Not only do you have boot/path problems but your XP registry pointers are now invalid.
It would also appear that instead of combining e: and d: the friend tried c: and d:. The results are typical and I would never recommend such an operation without special considerations.
Your friend may very well end up reinstalling everything.
Wish I had better news.
Knowing the correct answer and giving a correct answer, are two different things
