I have instaled Win XP SP1 on two different HDD and some 10 partitions. For each family member one of these partitions should be private (similar to the 'make this folder private' checkbox in the sharig tag of the properties option). As a standard this option is shaded gray. Is there any standard M$ option tos olve this or is http://www.pc-magic.com the only tool making this possible.

make sure each partition is ntfs. if not then use the convert tool - syntax
convert x: /fs:ntfs
then open my computer, tools menu, then folder options. goto view tab and the very last option is 'use simple file sharing'. uncheck this box. you then have muuch more control over your files and folders. you can then goto the properties of each drive, select the security tab and then configure access as required. (always let system have full permission)
for what you want you do not need a 3rd oparty tool

Hey man Download Tweak UI for XP and you can hide any partition you want from the layman. Go to my computer/drives and uncheck the ones you don't want to show up.(in tweak UI) When you need to access them go to the run command and type in E:, F: or what ever.
