My HP Deskjet 722c (parallel) will only print one or two lines and then it stops and the light blinks. If I send another print job through it spits out the unfinished document and starts a new job only to do the same thing. This happens in all programs. I do not get any errors saying something is wrong, just won't complete the printing job. The printing job does not seem to stay in memory after the uncompleted printing job stops. I also have a Epson 820 Photo Printer using USB on the same computer but it works fine in all programs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Linda

My system requires a switch or printer hub to run two printers from my computer. If you go into your device manager you will probably see the Epson as your defaut printer. Then Check the HP printer status. Make sure you have the latest XP drivers from the HP website for your printer. You might have to decide what printer you want to use, due to the cost of a hub. Some printers, and HP is one of them do not like the switch device. All the best!

Try switching from RAW printing mode to EMF or viceversa.
You'll find that in the Printing Properties of your printer under the Advanced tab and Printing Processor button.
I don't know the exact names in English 'cause I use Windows in Spanish.

HP does not seem to support anything mor ethan the basic printer driver on the WinXP CD. You could try going into your BIOS and set the ECP printer to EPP. this helps some HP printers work, I am not sure how it may efect the Epson printer. Also have you tried to uninstall the printer and re-install. Sometimes things get scrambled during upgades.
Good Luck

To start off with...thank you for all your responses!

1. I have the latest drivers according to the HP website. No other drivers are offered for WinXP.

2. I tryed changing the printing mode(s) with no luck.

3. I was running both printers on Win98SE with no problems. I then reformated and installed WinXP Pro and both printers were working fine at first then slowly the HP722C starting printing uncompleted print jobs sporadically and now all the print jobs are uncompleted.

4. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and printers several times with no luck.

5. I will look in the bios and see what I can find about changing the EPC to EPP and get back to you on this..

Thanks again...Linda

This is pissing me off as well. I really liked my 722c until I upgraded to XP. My printer does print but now I can't print 2-sided, can't align the print cartridges when I change ink, and can't print labels, banners etc. The HP phone # is 208-323-2551 5a to 9p pacific time [I think this should be 9 to 5 but that's what the website says]. I'm going to call them tomorrow and will let you know what they say.

Just thought of something else...try checking the box that says "print directly to the printer" in the "advanced" tab of your 722c properties. Oh, and never mind my gripe about aligning the print cartridges - I found it on second look in the "services" tab.
Hope this helps, Dan

Thanks for the phone number! Yes, I also like my HP722C and especially because someone recently gave me 3 brand new cartridges! I hate to use the ink on the photo printer for normal printing. Frustrating because I have come to like WinXP despite all the problems I have had to sort out. Great learning process if you have the time.

I will also call HP and post the results.

Good luck on your end!

HP won't support my printer anymore under XP and I'm NOT ALONE!

OK Linda, you gotta try this simple fix!

Right click on My Computer and select
Properties from the menu.

Click on the Hardware tab.

Click on the Device Manager button.

Expand the Ports item.

Right click on "ECP Printer Port (LPT1)" and select Properties from menu.

Click on the Port Settings tab.

Check "Enable Legacy Plug and Play Detection"

So simple, why couldn't HP or MS help me without carging me $25 to talk to a tech?

Oh well, I think this may have cured my intermittent garbled printing problem. Will print more stuff to see if it crops up again. Dan

Hi Dan...I followed your suggestions and the "Enable Legacy Plug and Play Detection" was already checked. I am still searching for the answer. And yes...I agree that Epson is the way to go. I have a Epson 820 Photo Printer I paid $85 for and it prints better than any processing I can get at the store.

I did not call HP yet, but clearly that would be a waste of my time after what happened to you. I hope your $25 paid for itself and your problem is solved for good.

I am going to spend some time on this issue again tomorrow and I will let you know what if anything I find out.

Thanks for all you help!

Linda

Hi Linda, I just spent 3 days trying to get my Epson 870 to work with XP! It would print, but all the extra features wouldn't work like ink level, two sided, ect...
I tried everything possible with drivers and properties. It wouldn't work in either USB or Par. Port modes and always got an communiction error message!

I resolved my problem but I'm not sure if will help you or not. Here it is;

Follow this tree;
Start
control panel
add new hardware
next
check mark yes (hardware is already installed)
next
Hightlight the port your printer is attached to
next (this will show you if it is working properly or not) if it isn't, select next and it will enable it. If it is working properly, your back to square one.

The funny thing is my printer was using a port called virtual USB printer port. In the properties screen it was showing all was ok. But when I followed the above procedure, it showed it disabled! I clicked next at it enabled it and everything started working!
GOOD LUCK

Bang head on keyboard to continue...
