Hey guys,
This is been going on for a while and its off and on and I would like to know whats going on ONCE AND FOR ALL.
I've setup an HP printer on one computer in the home with printer sharing setup on about 5 computers in this house.
There have been times when I could print remotely from any other computer without a problem but recently (and before the good times) I've had problems where I will see the document spooled on the printer on the main computer that has the printer hooked up but it wont print, or ill restart one computer or the other and eventually it'll work after a long while.
Many times I get stuck with a document in the spooler that will not go away and I've even uninstalled and reinstalled the printer drivers to get it working again.
Now I've noticed when downloading the hp drivers there are no drivers with 'network support,' all of them say 'no network support' but then again I am able to print at times through the network.
ANYONE who can please tell me what is going on I would greatly appreciate it!

AMD Athlon XP 2800 OC to 2200Mhz
1gb DDR400 Ram.
Geforce 6800 LE overclocked and unlocked.
450W Power Supply.

If my HP printer has gone to sleep, I can't print from a networked PC. When that happens, I have symptoms similar to yours.
Also, just cancel the print job and close the spooler for a few minutes. The job WILL clear out, it just takes a while.

I dont believe we have a printer that goes to sleep, I've noticed, of course, that I can only do a network print while the computer that is connected to the printer is on.
Ok its good to know I can still force clear the print jobs but is the only way to get hassle free network printing by getting a more network friendly computer?

Without knowing which HP printer you are talking about, look HERE.

Common sense would tell you the computer the printer is connected to must be powered on or set to power on with certain commands. I have seen this issue when the host computer is in the hibernate state.
IMO it isn't worth the trouble to EVER have the harddrive shutdown.

Sorry guys this is an hp psc 1315xi
So the best bet to always having print jobs print from the network is to leave the computer on 24/7? Usually we just turn it on whenever we need to print and the computer does not hibernate/sleep/etc when it is on.

My solution to this type of problem is to get yourself a print server (if your printer does not have network capabilities) and use that. Then you do not need a computer running 24/7 only the printer. It seems to solve these miscellaneous problems that occur with your configuration.
