Is it mandatory to connect your printer to your router?
Because you can always connect your printer to one computer and turn on file and printer sharing for both computers so the printer will be networked.

You'll need a print server to do this unless your router supports it, some do. You can find them in wired or wireless version. Linksys and other manufacturers make them.
The advantage is you won't need to keep a computer on to print, but not all will be able to use the scanner function on your all in one printer. Read the specs carefully.
