O.K. I am a true computer dummy here. I have been trying for weeks to figure out what it means when "the printer spooler service is not running" pops up when I try to install a printer. I have asked everyone I know that knows a little something about computers, short of spending a bunch of money, I have gotten nowhere. Heeeeeeeeeelp!!!!!!!!

Have you tried starting the printer service?
1. Click Start.
2. Select Run
3. Type "services.msc" and click OK.
4. Scroll down until you find "Printer Spooler".
5. Right click it and select Start. If it does not start, you may have to run cleanspl.exe. I can post instructions for that if you still have issues.

cleanspl.exe is included in the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools. Most of the tools apply to XP as well.
To use it, you would:
1. Install the toolkit.
2. Run cleanspl.exe.
3. Respond "No" at all prompts.
