hi,
i have 10 comps in a lab and am sharing a printer from one of the comp. i am having prob with one computer - when i try to access the comp shaing the printer (say comp1) from the other comp (say comp2) it asks me for username and pwd and if i enter the username and pwd, it says access denied.
its strange cause all the 10 computers have the same usernames and pwds and all have the same settings. i went into shared printer securty settings and made sure that the lab account was give full manage permissions and also made sure that the lab account can connect from network (under local policy settings). all 8 computers work fine - its just this one comp that wont connect - it may not be a printer sharing prob but some other access prob too but i seem to have run out of ideas. any suggestions??

First, make sure the the Microsoft Client and File and Print sharing are enabled for the network adapter of the sharing computer. Also check to make sure everyone is in the same domain or workgroup. If that doesnt help and your lab network is pretty secure, on the security tab of the printer properties, add the guest account (this will work even if guest is diabled) and give it appropriate printing priviliges.

are you able to get on the network with the username and password that you use to allow printing? when you logon to the network, do you have access to the internet, network drives, ect? also when you go to add the printer, does it see the printer that you want to add? agreed with the post above, make sure it is on the workgroup, you might want to take it off the workgroup or domain and rejoin and see what happens, that will also rebuild tcp/ip

hi,
thanks for the posts. the computers are in a workgroup and i have tried removingthe comp from the workgroup and rejoining it. it is able to get on the internet (static IP) and browse and everything. i have changed the ip addresses too and tried adding the guest account and given it manage printer rights but that still doesnt help.
as i posted earlier, when i try to connect to another machines it asks me for the username and password and when i enter it, it gives an access restriction error. now the other 8 machiines in the lab odnt do that - its just this machine cause all the machines have the same username and password. and all of them were installed from an image cd and no settings have been changed. so any ideas what might be messing things up??
