I have a printer sharing problem with XP. My printer is connected to a Win98 system and I send my print jobs over the network. Everytime, printer turns off (automatically), XP looses track of the printer and crashes. To resolve, every time I must print a test page and after that as long as printer is on, I can print. Once the printer turned off, I have to redo the whole procedure again or I won't be able to print.
I changed the IP address, and the host name but it didn't help. The printer is shared with the same name on both XP and Win98 machines. It seems like there is an incompatibility between XP and Win98. Any thought?

Thanks

Amir

delete your printer on 98(uninstalling)
Relocate your printer. connect it your xp machine. 98 will have no trouble seeing it on the network. They will still be on the network anyways.
Of course you have to go to Printers and Fax
Add new printer on the network, browse or if you know the name of your printer, just type it. Its very easy from here. Let me know if you have problems.

Hi, put a "$" sign at the end of your share printer name on Win95 side.
e.g.: hplj$
At WinXP to install a network printer with the above printer name.
It is work...
