I just got a new laptop. The printer i have is the hp Deskjet 820 CXi. On the new laptop there is XP Pro SP1 and office 2003. When i send a document to print, if it is more than half a side in word then it will not print. The spool icon appears in the task bar and goes away right away. But if the page is half a side or less then it prins fine. The printer works fine on any other laptop or PC. Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of (aside from calling HP) (and I've found their tech support pretty good) is to check the printer properties to be sure they're correct and be sure you have the right drivers installed. Assume this is PNP and it found the drivers when you installed the printer.

XP did not pick the printer up i had to install it manually. The only thing different from this laptop and the other is the version of office. The other also had xp sp1.

Try:
Click Start,
then Printers and Faxes,
right click your printer Icon,
then Properties,
On the General tab, click Print Test Page button. That should print an entire page. If it does then it is a software problem.

Did you find a solution to your problem. For some reasons, I have not the exact same problem but problems though.
My problem is slightly different. When I have a word (or Excel for that matter) and place a picture from file, my picture is multiplied on the print and only on the print.
My printer is a Canon IRC2100 and like you, the only differens between a working computer and a non-working computer is Office 2003 !
