Hi. I recently bought a Canon MP610 all-in-one printer, which I installed correctly and which worked perfectly for several days.
Recently, however, when I try to print a document (from any program), a message appears saying "The printer is offline. Check that the printer cable is connected and the printer power is on" and it fails to print. The printer is connected properly, switched on, ready to print etc.
On checking in "Printers and Faxes", the printer is shown as Offline, and changing the status to Online makes no difference to the problem. Restarting the computer also doesn't correct the problem.
I've corrected the problem on two occasions now by re-installing the printer driver, but after a while the problem persists.
Can anyone help?
Thank you.
John

Is the printer connected directly to a USB port, or to a hub?
Directly to a USB port.
Second question - are you sure your Windows XP has SP1 or SP2 installed in place? i_Xp/VistaUser
I'm fairly sure I have SP1 installed. Have can I check?
right click on My Computer, select Properties and right there on the General tab is your answer.
Open System Properties by pressing WinKey+Pause/Break. It will show if you have SP1 or SP2 installed. i_Xp/VistaUser
Ok, it appears I don't have SP1 installed.
Install SP2 and your problem will be cured afterward. Read M$KB article below. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834462

I've installed SP2 and the problem has been solved. Many thanks for your help!
