Printer not Printing Black

I have been having some problems with my printers not printing black. I recently had a Xerox workcenter m940 for about 2 years and it was working fine until a few months ago it stopped printing black. Color works fine except black. Tried everything, changing catridges, cleaning heads, everything. Thought it might be the printer gone bad so I just bought a Lexmark X6170. Just finished installing and when printing a test page..did not print black!! I have no idea why my printers are doing this. Color is fine but black wont print. I dont know why my computer is doing this..did a check for virus using AVG and didnt find any..dont know what else it can be. Please help! This printer is brand new so I dont think it is a problem with the printer. Can anyone help?

What happens when you print a black and white page with some text (this option you can set in 'Pproperties > Paper/Quality' in the printer dialog window)? Is text than not visable or has it an other colour?

I think I just fixed the problem. For some reason the black ink cartridge wasnt letting out any ink. Shaked it really hard and its working now. At least now I know it was the old printer gone bad...advice to everyone..dont buy a Xerox Workcenter M940. Did some research and saw that many others are doing the same. Glad I found out I didnt buy a new printer for nothing. Thanks for the help though.
