I lost my HP Deskjet 3900 Printer Drivers, and will be buying a XP new laptop soon. Does one even need HP Deskjet 3900 Printer Drivers for XP, or does XP run/recognize the printer without the drivers?

mmm - Who knows (ony The Shadow...) But a google/yahoo etc search will bring up numerous hits for them; and if you go to the hp site itself - specifically this support area:
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en...
and then enter: HP Deskjet 3900 in the right place - and check the radio button for drivers and software (etc.) just above that place... and then press enter... Voila you go straight to them...
Possibly XP will provide them - possibly not; but don't hurt to download them etc. too; and save for future use?
So easy really...
Thaks for the reply. I knew I could download the drivers, but was hoping I wouldn't have to go through that hassle and just "plug-and-print".
As I say... possibly - but who knows. I have found that some of the printers are within XP; and yet quite a few "ain't"; and likewise for some of the not so recent... Personally I feel it's wise to go visit whichever website for one's printer; download the latest drivers and store them off the system at all times; as that way if you ever need them - you've got 'em... And frequently there are updated driver versions that arrive post whichever version in within the OS you have...
Double D If MS does have a driver for your printer there is a good chance it wouldn't have any custom features that were included from the manufacturer.
BTW, from previous threads here I would guess you will need to buy that laptop online. Local retailers are stocking machines with Vista preloaded. If you think you can buy a Vista Laptop and simply install XP you may need to rethink. That doesn't always work. Some of the needed drivers don't even exist. You may find a driver that will work but not with all the features. Buyer beware in that case.
A reputable local retailer is still selling XP laptops.
