Print spooler error

hello
trying to print last night and couldnt detect printer by word which confussed me at first so i then went to control panel - printers to find the printer is not their ok:S so i then went to add printer to reinstall this to come accorros the warning "Operation could not be performed, the print spooler is not running" so my question is what the hell has gone wrong and how can i correct this my only quess at the moment is a virus which has attcked this or a generall error some were my initial idea is to repair xp install via cd boot. Before i do so does any one have any ideas

I.ve seen printers reappear after a simple reboot. I had a similar problem with a few computers at work running McAfee VirusScan. I uninstalled it, rebooted, and the printers reappeared. I then reinstalled McAfee and everything continued to work.

Maybe the Print Spooler service is actually stopped (not running)
Go to Start->Run
Type cmd and then hit enter
in the command prompt box:
type net start then hit enter. This will show services running. See if Print Spooler is listed.
If it is not -
type net start "print spooler" then hit enter
If the Print Spooler Service doesn't start, maybe reboot the computer.

thanks guys, well tried all this but no luck so ended up running a repair xp pro, works fine now :)
