Says SMART status BAD. Does it mean that the hard disk is gone and need a new hard disk to replace the present. This is a SONY Vaio Desktop purchased 3 years before from PC Richard in New York. Please advice.

Save all of your data before it's too late and consider getting a new hard drive. Which program gave you the smart status message ? You might want to download and run the hard drive manufacturer's utility.
