First by changing the jumpers on the drives, then the cable positions to each drive.

Are both drives on the same ide cable? If so then simply change the jumpers. If you are talking about your primary and secondary IDE controllers rather than master/slave settings then that is a different matter.
You have two IDE controllers. One Primary and the other Secondary. Each controller is capable of running two IDE devices such as harddrives and optic drives. One will be Master and the other will be Slave depending on how the jumpers on the drives are set.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

i had a DVD installed and i noticed that its on the slave and the CD is on the master, They are both on the secondry IDE chanel. I thought that the DVD being the more important, that i should have that on the master? what do you think?

Why do you want to change it? "More important"????... If both drives are working okay, I'd leave it the way it is.

There is no functional difference between a Master and a Slave drive.

The use of 'Master' and 'Slave' was a poor choice. They should have used 'A' and 'B' or '1' and '2' so people wouldn't get the wrong impression.
