What you can do is try to run the Las KNow Good Config, which press F8 whe it bootup. (B4 those option popup.)

Then everything must be find.

HI

First off the response from JP won't work. Because in order to use the last known good config you need to be able to boot from the harddrive. And from your discription the bios is not recognizing the harddrive. That is why when you press F1 to continue it asks for a system disk because the harddrive is not recognized in the bios.

Now as for the sollution. Thats not so easy.
One thing that I have seen is sometimes when that happens you can remove the IDE connector from the harddrive and motherboard and reconnect it. I don't know why but it sometimes comes loose just enough so the bios will not be able to recognize it.

If that works and then later it happens again then replace the IDE cable with a new one, I have found that to stop it from happening.

If that does not work then there is a good possibility that the harddrive has failed. I know that is not something you want to here. I don't know of anything else to try. Maybe someone else will have another idea.

Good luck, hope you get your data back.
