I am having a problem, i have a 1.8ghz computer with 512 megs of ram with Windows XP. While using my computer the other day it froze and the harddrive started making noises, so i turned it off. When i turned it back on, the harddrive started making noises again, and I got the message Primary Master Hard Disk Error Hit (F4) for Setup. Does anyone know what to do? I haven't found a fix for this on the internet. This happened the first day i got the computer. Does anyone know if it's a cable problem inside the computer or anything like that?

i dont wanna assume the worst but in my experience that a dead drive
is it a deskstar?? if so thats a common drive for being a deadun

The drive has failed and its probably the heads, powering the machine will further destroy the drive. If there is any important data on the drive then try www.computer-recovery.com

If it was the harddrive that was making the funny noise then it doesn't sound good, I would take it back to the shop you brought it from and ask them to test it or swap it for a new one since you have only had it one day.
If it were a cabling issue then your computer wouldn't have booted the first time but the funny noise you heard could have been the Harddrive dying on you or a cable rubbing up against a fan. Best to get it checked.
Laters.

It is a Vpr Matrix, I forgot to mention that it stops making clicking noises after the message, "Primary Master Hard Disk Error. Press (F4) to setup" I then can go to the bios and change stuff around, but i don't know if that would help.

yah id take it back. bestbuy right? but ive had that happen more than once and everytime its been dead. almost no doubt in my mind but bestbuy should give you a new drive if not a whole new pc.
