Comment:

I have a desktop with pentium 4, 512 mb ram. when I boot I get the following message:

Primary Master Hard Disk Error
Press F4 to run setup.

In the bios it shows under "primary IDE master" name of some drive but for Primary IDE slave it says "not detected". I think bios is not able to identify the hard drive. what do you think is the issue? and do you have any suggestion on the solutions?

i created a MS DOs boot cd and tried booting to MS Dos but computer won't boot from the cd. I changed the setting in bios so that it boots from the cd but no use. it won't boot from the cd. any help will be greatly appreciated.

More info please.

Primary Master Hard Disk Error

Primary IDE slave it says "not detected"

Is there a slave device on the primary IDE controller?

When did this problem start - and what had changed/happened (hardware/software/problem) beforehand?

You could download diagnostic utility from drive manufacturer & run that. If ok, try recovery console and running chkdsk /p, then fixboot.

I don't know about the slave device on the primary IDE controller. I just read what I found on the Bios configuration.
