Name: Misse
My friend called me, after purchasing a new Fujitsu-Siemens laptop. She had powered it up, knowing she had to do something to get the installation finished, but the damn thing got stuck somewhere, close to the appearance of the XP logo. Apparently she watched "multiple small XP logos for 10 mins" before she understood that something was not right.
So, tomorrow I go check it out, and I have to say that I´ve never had any business with pre-installed OS`s. If someone has any information about the idea of how they are set up, I would be thankful :)
I know there is a "recovery cd???" there, but NO actual oem XP cd. (what´s with that?)
This might still ofcourse be something very different than a problem with the OS, but...Misse

Some brand-name PC comes with recovery CD, some don't, some require you to create one the first time you run XP, and others (such as Dell) comes with Dell OEM XP Installation CD. I am not familiar with Fujitsu-Siemens. You can visit their web site and determine what they use.

Sounds like she was watching the pre-logon screensaver.

Oh yeah, there was a bit more.... a hardwareproblem.
When booting to bios, I couldn´t read anything, because it was totally blurred. Some stripes went up and down the screen, from the first seconds after boot. Then it gets stuck like she said. The machine was sent back where it came from immediatly.
I was actually asking you about WHAT the pre-installed XP is; Is it a installpackage on HDD, instead of CD, or is it installed XP, but maybe without personal settings or something :)
I read some documents of the Fujitsu-Siemens, and now believe it is a installed XP with no settings made, and the recovery CD being actually the oem XP cd, with a Fuj-Sie logo on it.Something "new" every day.... lol
