preinstalled Windows XP problem

I purchased my notebook from Japan. It came with preinstalled XP. Due to virus I formatted the disk and deleted the partitions think I would be able to reinstall clean version of XP. I do not have the restore CD but XP key is printed on the back side of the laptop.
After formatting , I am unable to install any OS. I tried XP and Windows 2000.
From whatever search I have done it appears, that this is happeneing because of preinstalled stuff. Is there any solution ? Can this problem be corrected on any of the computer stores or I have to seek Sharp only ?
I am unable to believe that a s/w crash renders my notebook useless!

The webpage for Sharp Mebius
is HERE. Be aware that this site requires that you have Japanese language. Your best bet is to try access the Tech Support from that link. The COA label attached to your notebook is not the same as the XP Product Key ID which is probably why it is not working for you. If you bring it to a store, you most likely would be told to buy the retail XP CD.

What if I purchase a new retail version of XP (is it different than OEM ?) ? Will that enable my computer or the preinstall thing will still block me from installing a new OS ? I am totally confused what exactly is pre-installed thing. Is there any BIOS level check which is preventing me from installing the new OS ?
