powers on and off by itself

Computer turns itself on (even in the middle of night when not used for hours) and off (goes to screen asking do you want to shut down - if you do not click no fast enough it shuts down). I have tried different hard drives (with different operating systems), a different power supply and scaned for viruses. Any suggestions?

In all reality, have you looked at the P/S or the switching?...

Do you have WOL enabled in the system BIOS & have some communication console device like a fax machine routed through the computer?

I am with sabertooth and the wake on lan switch in the bios being enabled. Also check to see if the Infra-red is enabled as it might also be controled by a TV remote control or even a garage door opener down the street.

Hello.
My PC has also recently started to turn on by itself. But it does not turn off by itself.
I suspected my NIC card being the cause for self power-on. What I did was to disable the Wake-up on LAN function in BIOS. Now I am testing my PC to see if it still powers on by itself. It has not powered on by itself for a while.

If you're have a surge protector, turn the machine off at the source. That way, the machine is protected from electrical surges and spikes, and it won't turn on by itself as long as the power source if off.
If you don't have one, then you should. :)
