Ive just recently reformatted my hard drive and now noticed it no longer fully powerdown, it leaves me with a message "it is now safe to switch off your computer".. In looking in the device manager i see the computer is called a standard PC and not an APCI one... any ideas of how to resolve this

I think you meant ACPI....
No problem I typo all the time too =)
I read this on
http://www.sysopt.com/articles/win2000/index3.html
By Joel Kleppinger, this suggests that the only way to fix this is to rerun the install (from scratch) and install the ACPI drivers, as there is no way to correct it past this point due to the installation of these drivers or not.
"I searched the Microsoft Knowledge base, and found that it is strongly discouraged to switch from ACPI to non-ACPI or vice versa. They suggested that to do this change, run setup as an upgrade and have ACPI enabled or disabled in BIOS to get the proper files installed. This is because several drivers and services depend on whether or not the system kernel supports ACPI. If it does, then different versions of those drivers and services need to be installed. Because of the fact that simply changing the computer type does not switch driver or service files, it is not recommended to switch across the "ACPI barrier" without running setup."Hope it gives you some pointers.
