Power outage causing windows problem

May 15, 2009 at 11:55:09
Specs: Windows XP
yesterday I had a power outage and my computer would not reboot. I reinstalled windows but now none of my files are available. It asks me which operating system and it shows the old one but when I click on it it says "windows will load in 60 seconds" but it goes to 0 and then nothing happens. The new windows runs correctly from another drive but I can't retrieve my old info. I also can't reinstall optimum online which causes me to not have internet access. Help!

Might be useful if you clarify things a little perhaps...?

How many physical drives in the system; one or two? If only one drive the how is it partitioned?

To where did you install the Windows afresh; which drive/partition etc. accordngly?

Are the files you obviously would like to recover on a different physical disk to that of the new OS installation; or are they on the same disk - but in a differrent partition?
