Comment:

hi, ive had my Dell dimension 3100 about 3 months. Yesterday morning i came to switch the pc on and nothing happened, i kept trying to switch it on all day and eventually it powered on. Then again this morning i came to switch the power on and nothing happened. I have since contaceted dell and after about 45 mins of listening to some guy read from a script he thinks he has narrowed it down to my PSU. I am not convinced however. When the power cord is plugged in to the back of the PC a yellow light is lit on the mother board so there is definatley power going through the system however no light shows when i press the power button. any ideas?

thanks

I think that dell uses a 4 color lite code that is built into their system mobo. The colors of the lights tell the tech what is probably the cause of the issue.

Just because you have a light show up on the mobo doesn't mean that the power supply is operating properly...it just means that there is some sort of power being distributed...ususally to a color diode that may or may not be coded....

your computer is under warranty...do as the service personel requests so as to not cause any problems with warranty later on.

Face it! If you knew more than the Dell technicians, you'd have built your own machine 3 months ago.

Let Dell fix it under warranty.
