Name: Brian
I'm on my second attempt of installing Windows XP SP1 and it's f'd up my drive letters AGAIN. My drives are absolutely configured properly (i.e. master/slave, etc.). The first time I installed I had my
a drive (3.5 floppy)
c drive primary master (120 gig)
d drive primary slave(40 gig)
e drive dvd-rom secondary master
f drive dvd-R secondary slave
and very unfortunatly my 6-in-1 memory card reader connected to the system.I choose to install format and partition the C drive (120 gig) which was new to install XP on (it of course showed up first on the list on the blue install screen off the XP cd). Instead the computer choose to organize the drives as follows
a drive was set to a
d drive (40 gig) was set to C with no files on it.my 5 or 6 memory card drives then came in alphabetically order following the c drive
then the two dvd roms were H and I
my actual c drive (120 gig) with windows XP installed on it appeared as J.
Needless to say I had to reinstall. This time around I disconnected everything except my dvd rom and c drive (with corrected jumper settings where necessary) for the install. It correctly set up my 120 gig as c, my floppy as A, and my dvdrom as D. After installation when I connected the other hard drive and dvd-rom it chose the following order:
c 120 gig (stayed the same)
d dvd-rom (stayed the same)
e 40 gig hd (WHY NOT D?!?!)
f dvd-RI haven't even fooled witht he memory card reader yet.
Anything I can do?

To change a drive's designated letter, right click my computer and select MANAGE, then in the list click DISK MANAGEMENT, you will see a list of your drives, right click the drive who's letter you would like to change and select CHANGE DRIVE LETTER AND PATHS.
