Comment:

I recently hooked up a router (linksys model) and can no longer access the web unless norton is disabled. While online wih norton disabled, I noticed that I had 2 new programs on my computer, BullsEye Network and CashBack by BargainBuddy. When I go into add/remove programs to delete these two programs, which I am assuming to be spyware, they ask questions about there product and don't sucessfully delete (actually, my computer freezes and needs to be restarted). Please offer any advice on how these programs can be removed from my computer and/or how to opperate Norton with my router in place.

Many thanks :)

Melissa

I think Ad-Aware, which is free, will delete them. My guess is it will also find other spyware and adware on your system. Do a google search to find the link to download. I am finding that I have to run multiple spyware progs to find everything on my system.

You can also get spybot and highjack this from www.download.com

These two programs and the above mentioned should take care of the problem.

One further note: You should be able to run Norton with a linksys router. Check your settings...

Hi Melissa,

Go to these three websites and download:
AD Aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/SPYBOT:http://www.safer-networking.org/
SPYWAREBLASTER:
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Now Install the programs in the order I have here.
BEFORE you run them, update all the indexes from within each program first.

Ad Aware is extremely powerful; to get the most efficiency, configure it this way: after it is installed and open and you have downloaded the newest updates:
Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear icon at the top):

SCANNING: enable "Scan Within Archives";
and also all 5 under "Memory and Registry";
Then click "Scan Now" and "Proceed". Kill whatever it finds.

AUTOMATION:
Enable "use custom scan settings";

TWEAK:
Scanning Engine:
Enable "Unload Recognized Processes During Scanning";

Cleaning Engine:
Enable "Automatically try to Unregister recognized processes prior to deletion";

Enable: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
TWEAK/CLEANING ENGINE: enable
Enable "Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot";
Enable "delete quarantined objects after restoring"

Press "PROCEED";

Let Ad Aware kill anything that it finds.

Go to Download.com and download GIANT AntiSpyware. It's the best. Norton sucks. Uninstall it and download ZoneAlarm from Download.com and you'll be protected! =)

Firewalls and AV proggies will not protect you from the sophisticated forms of spyware such as Cool Web Search.
