PopUp ads through Messenger Service

go to http://www.geocities.com/catch22_17565/pop_up.jpg to see what I am talking about.
This first appeared 2 weekends ago, and it's happened periodicly since then. Somehow, something is sending pop_up ads through our messenger service in Windows (XP network, ~60 computers on a domain)
This is extremely annoying. The only way I can think of getting rid of this is by shutting of the messenger service across the network and I honestly do not want to do that. Any thoughts, ideas?

Try installing and running Ad-Aware (www.lavasoft.de).
It sounds like there is a spyware program running on that PC which might be causing the popups to appear.

Hi,
This a blanket message being sent via a networking tool called net send. Basically if you are on a network you can send a basic message by using this tool
eg net send (either ip address or PC name) this is a test message
What you could do is if you are running a firewall find out what port net send uses then block that port with the firewall.
Hope this helps.
PC.

The above URL eradicated these unwanted messages that popped up in a gray box headed," MESSENGER SERVICE." They were peddling everything from phony college diplomas to pornography. These MESSENGER SERVICE advertisements began to appear about a month after taking delivery of my Dell 8200 notebook.
The fix that worked on my XP PRO O/S is the final posting on the page. Best of luck, Doc
