Hi - google shows me a multitude of similar looking problems but for the life of me I don't know what the cause is -

pop ups have started appearing while I'm online
when I navigate from one web page to another the tower unit starts a-humming and the screen hangs
task manager shows 100% cpu usage at these times
task manager shows 2 or 3 dumprep.exes going on which look as though they account for the high CPU
I terminate the process/process tree and usage returns to normal
IE error messages appear and the session shuts down and then reactivates restoring the last page I was looking at
I have pop up blocker on
I have windows firewall activated
I have Norton internet security with anti virus

I don't know whether this is a serious threat or just and horrendous nuisance but I want it gone, dead, killed, crushed, smote, squashed, smothered and ripped apart like a rag doll and spat into a toilet bowl filled with acid so I can watch it scream and burn and cry for mercy.... anyone able to help? Please.

Matt

Download and use both these programs. Ccleaner Slim and Malwarebytes. Get them at the links below.

Also, open your case and see if the insides are all crapped up with dust. If so, blow out with canned compressed air or a compressor. DO NOT use a vacuum cleaner on a computer.

Thank you OtheHill

It'll take me a little while to respond as I'm in the UK - please don't think I'm ignoring you!

aaaaah OtheHill - I tried to post the results of the cc & malaware scans but they must've been too long! I won't try to post them again because the important thing is that the pop ups have disappeared as has the dumprep delays and the IE hanging.

It's a rare thing these days that people do something without wanting something in return! so thank you very much for taking the time to look at my pc problem and giving enough of a damn to help me - whatever it was has now gone, like a ghoul that swooped in to haunt me for a week and was then beaten away by OtheHill - an exorcist of pc demons standing beside me (in spirit) and raising his/her hands to my puking raving gurgling pc whilst fierce wind tears through the room and toys and kitchen implements fly around in circles.

Calm has descended - thank you OtheHill and if you or the site want a testimonial feel free to use me.

Cheers - have an excellent day mate

Matt

Glad it helped. Thanks for getting back.

I suggest you run both those programs frequently. I run Ccleaner at least daily. After a long session of browsing I always run the cleaner module. The registry module is good and safe too. The only thing it may do is make you sign back in to websites you are registered at. So if you are going to use it be sure you remember your password and sign-in info.
