I was attempting to install a visual style for XP which comes in a self-executable 16-bit EXE file. It's from the same guy who I always use for my visual styles, so there's no viruses etc. in the file (I already checked myself, anyway).
However, everytime I run the file, I get the following error: S32EVNT1.DLL An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization.
Now, the problem with this is that it points to Program Files/Symantec as the source of the DLL file. However, that folder, nor the DLL doesn't exists as I uninstalled Norton AV a while ago. I searched for the DLL and found it in Windows/system32. I tried deleting it as well as deleting and then re-creating the VDD (Virtual Device Driver) entry in the registry and neither solved the problem.
However, when I re-created the VDD entry and ran the EXE, I didn't get the error. Instead, the DOS screen flashed for a second and then nothing else happened.
Obviously, I'm pretty confused now so I'd really appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this.
Thanks.

i have gotten an error report similar to that one (mentioning the 16 bit Windows subsystem) when I tried to open a JPEG picture saved to my Hard Disk. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, but when I started opening the JPEGs with Photoshop, everything worked ok again. Strange...

I saw that site, but that's why I'm confused. It shouldn't have anything to do with Norton because I unintsalled a along time ago.
Not only does the error point to file that doesn't exist, but it also points to a folder that doesn't exist.
