well, first off my power supply died so i just replaced it. and now it works fine, but when i started up, it wouldn't start up windows. so my dad said he kind of reformatted it. and now we cant get the internet connection working. i think what the problem is that my modem is still using information from the old settings, because we have 2 drives and i still see the files that were on my desktop from before, telling me that its not really gone, so neither are the settings for my modem. is there anyway i can bring all that info back as the main one?

thank you.

sorry, but something else that is telling me that the info is still on my old windows settings is that. i am trying to play a music file and it is telling me that no soundcard is recognized, meanwhile before the reformatting sound worked perfectly and i think those settings are with the old windows.

right click my computer and chose properties
click hardware tab
select device manager button
in the device manager look for any red 'x' or yellow '!or ?'.
If so you will need to determine what sound card you have installed and what modem you are using so as to download and install the propper drivers.

Go to the computer manufacturers web site and under support(driver downloads) look for the information for the model number of the computer and following the links will put you to a download page with the drivers for audio and modem there to download.

Sounds like he installed Windows without reformatting the drive.

Couple of thing to find out. Changing the power supply would not make XP stop working so something else must have happened to begin with. And more importantly, as trvlr mentioned, you definitely need to find out exactly what your dad did.
