Hi,
I have absolutly no idea what the following means. Could somebody simplify it for me??? I need to know what I have to do and how to do it!
How do I clear the Windows XP most-recently-used (MRU) search history for files and folders?
The easiest way to clear the Windows XP history of searched files and folders is:
1. Copy / Paste the following to an ACMRU.reg file:
REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603]
2. Merge the ACMRU.reg file with your registry.
Thanks,
Rob

It means you copy and paste this information...
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603][HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603]
Into notepad, then save the file as ACMRU.reg and then you go to where the file is saved, right click on it and choose merge and it will merge the file into the registry.
KTTDNo, I will not fix your computer

Hi,
I did what you said but unfortunatly it came up with this message -
The specified file is not a registry script.
What do I do now???Thanks,
Rob

My bad...
REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603]
Copy and paste all of that. The REGEDIT4 has to be in the file in order for it to work properly. Again, my bad.KTTD
No, I will not fix your computer

I just answer the questions asked. There are other ways to accomplish the same thing but that is not what the person asked so why give them a different answer which never does answer what they asked in the first place?
KTTD
No, I will not fix your computer

Per,
Not that your method would not work but if someone ask a specific question I believe one should give a specific answer. You are assuming your way is simpler. Do you know for fact that the registry fix is not as effective or are you just assuming that it is not?
KTTD
No, I will not fix your computer

Not making judgement either way, kttd. You might take a look at MRU-BLASTER. It removes the entries on a schedule the user determines automatically. It runs in the background and, as I said, is the easier way.I am sure your way works.
