My problem is that every once in a while ALL my "icons" on desktop dissappear. I am able to get them back by clicking on "Control, Alt, Delete" and then click on "New Task" and type in the word "explorer". Then they all come back til next time. Plus when I go to Reboot it takes forever (at least 5 minutes or longer) and I am connected to cable??? I am attaching a HJT Log file and and do know that I have alot of stuff running in back groung, so can somebody please tell me what to get rid of please.
I run Windows XP Pro, with AVG Anti-virus.
Please, any and all help is greatly appreciated. Many thanks

De Hawk, SWAG, since you say you have a lot of stuff running in the background, I've an idea that you are consuming the available memory and when that happens, screen refresh suffers and your icons go away. Take a look at your start menu and see if you have extras. See what must run at startup @:

DE Hawk:
You may have the F-Nimda virus.
My Grandson had the same problem and this was the fix.
Go to:
ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/shellfix.txt
This gives you the instructions and the following site is the file to download and use.ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/shellfix.reg
Good luck

OK dude there's a much easier way to do this, I had the exact same problem, it's simple really, Right click on your desktop go to :Arrange Icons By, Then: Show Desktop Icons. It's as easy as that, if it still doesn't work e-mail me and tell what exactly is wrong and I'll try to help
