I have having some difficulty downloading Updates from Windows Update. The scanning portion that Windows Update does before, however, work fine. It is just after I accept the Microsoft agreement and start the downloading in which a new window pops up and displays the download and installation progress. The updates scroll by really fast, and attempts to install the updates, but fails. The window closes, and Windows Update gives me a message saying that all the updates have failed to install.
If anybody knows how to fix this problem, it will be very much appreciated because I would like to get the updates asap. I've read the previous solutions to similar problems with windows update in this forum, but have not had any successes. I've tried adding the ip and url address to the /windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts file, but made no difference. I've also tried setting all my security and cookie setting to the lowest possible, but it still has no change.
I am behind an HTTP Proxy Server, but Windows Update works fine in Windows Me (I am dual booting Windows XP Professional and Windows Me at the moment). Therfore, I believe the settings on the proxy server (in which I have no control) has no affect on this problem. I have also tried updating Windows through Windows Update on another machine on the same network running only Windows XP Home Edition, and it still does not work.
Please help me if anyone can. Thanks
Josh Yee

I had the same problem but i wasn't behind a proxy server, i just unchecked auto-detect Lan settings. U can find this in "control panel--> internet options--> connections --> Lan settings" If you can uncheck this box and still use the internet, u should be able to download the updates and any other downloads you couldn't before. Reply, and let me know if this works!

You can get the downloads from the Corporate website, maybe? That place lets you download the files straight to your HD, so you can run the EXE file later, or something like that. I have not tried it, and do not know the right link. Maybe you can do a search or someone can provide it.
