I formated and re-installed my pc, and after that some *.jpg files on my external backup hard drive can't be opened. it shows green file name and when clicked it says 'no preview available'. I have done some research and found this website about EFS recovery. see here: http://www.beginningtoseethelight.org/efsrecovery/index.php I downloaded aefsdr demo but it shows that my files were not disencryptable. I wonder if there's any other way I can have my files back?
Any suggestions will be of great help. Thanks a lot.

Were you using some image software before that encrypted the files? Or were you using some other third party file encryption software to protect data?
Would think you would need to reinstall that software since you formatted.

I used drive snapshot for backup. but these files are not backed up with any software. nor did I set any particular encryption. I only used XP login name and password. it is said it automatically generate encryption on files. Is it possible they are just corrupted? how can i fix that?
