I've downloaded some TV shows and was trying to play them on Windows Media Player but all I got was the volume and not a picture. How do I get them to play with both the volume and a picture cause there's no point without both of them? The files are .avi files.

If there is some kid of program that is needed to convert them to play, does anyone know of any that are free?

you probably need a codec.
download gspot.load your movie file into it and you will see all the info you need. including what codec you need. probably divx or xvid.

Go here and get the K-Lite Codec pack. This is a very safe package to download as well, no extra surprises...

Just do a search for the "XP codec pack"... it pretty much has every codec you'll need for watching downloaded tv shows or movies.

I'd rather download the entire pack instead of just individual codecs, because sooner or later you're bound to have a few downloaded shows or movie files that you'll eventually need a certain codec for anyway.
