playing DVD from laptop to tv

November 21, 2009 at 21:47:32
Specs: Windows XP
I am trying to play a DVD from my laptop through my TV. I have a RBG cable which is connected to RGB port on LG Flat screen TV (belkin super VGA Home Theatre Cable). I was also sold a connexia stereo plug -2 RCA plugs which I connected from headset port on PC to audio ports on TV. Unfortunately I can play DVD with picture only on TV OR sound only on TV -never both together. On the TV Input settings I have either the option of RGB or the option of component to see either picture or the sound. I cant select them both. Why can I just play the dvd with the picture and the sound at the same time? Have I been sold the wrong cables? Each cable by itself works fine (independantly) but this is not what I want. Please help with specifics thanks!

Your question has nothing to do with XP operating system and would have been more appropriately asked in the general hardware forum.

You need to give specific details of the TV model number and refer to it's operator manual to work out what the input requirements are to get both sound & picture. It will not be with the component audio input ports since those correspond with component video input, but more likely using a D-SUB audio input port that will be close by the VGA port. ( At least that's the way my Sony is configured) The Connexia cable with two RCA plugs on the TV end will probably not be the correct cable to connect from laptop audio out to D-Sub in
