Playing .DAT files in Windows Media

Since my .DAT file is burned into cdr, I can't rename it to .MPG and I can't copy it from my cdr over to my HD to rename it cos' windows won't recognise it.

Have you tried coping the dat files back to the hard drive and then changing the ext and reburning.

I can't. Windows won't recognise this .dat file and thus won't allow me to copy and bring over.

I have a lot of VCD movies that show as .dat files on the disk. Just start media player use File>Open tabs and change file option to "All Files" open the .dat file and media player does the rest. Works for me.
