Playing AVI/MPEG on a DVD player

i have some avi`s mpegs and divx format movies and videos that i want to be able to watch on my DVD player can anyone reccomend some software to do this as the movies are quite short i want to be able to burn on a cd but in DVD format...any suggestions greatly appreciated...nero cd burner said it could do this but i dont think it worked and also would it make andy difference if i decided to write the movies on a CD-RW as oppose to a CD-R..
DVD players can be stubborn about what kinds of cds they will play. You might try a different brand and color to see if it helps. So far, I've only been able to play cdrw disks on my DVD player.
