I play avi files and they work fine. I have installed these codecs: wmtools(run install program) mpeg4x(unzip and put the files in temp folder) iv5setup(run install prog.) codinstl(run install prog.) divx_412 bundle (run install program) smrpatchsetup and things work fine. :)
If you haven't installed those, try it and see if it works. hope it works. Ash

I have at least one million codecs installed on my system, but the only ones used for avi files are wmv and divx. wmv is installed anyway, and if you have installed divx too, and it still doesn't work, then it might be a problem with the player rather than the codecs. in that case try another player, e.g. media player 6 instead of 8.

Just last night, my girlfriend gave me an awesome program that identifies the codecs used in a video file for you. Supposedly it does all the work in finsing out what codec you need which is sweeeet. I'll get the name of it when I get off work and post it here.
