My son has a game that he would like to play without the disk being in the drive. He has copied everything from the disk to his desktop. The game is RollerCoaster Tycoon 2. When he clicks on the icon a dialog comes up for him to put the disk in. I can clear the "D:" and copy and paste "c:\documents and settings\his name\desktop\rtc and then it will run the game without the disk but is there a way that I can set it where it will always run this way??

Well if you own a store bought copy of the game (not copied from a friends disc) you can legally download a "no cd" patch for your game...try searching google you may find something there.

You have to got my computer and right click on the cd drive and press copy. Then goto a place like program file or my documents and make a new folder and name it the name of the game. Then paste the files in there. You then have to open the folder and find the exe. file or the auto run file that the game starts from and run it from there. Once you find the run file you can make a short cut to that file and paste in on your desk top.

Hope this helps.

cold613, yes it is a legal disk. I bought it for him for his birthday. I will try to find that "no-cd" patch. Thanks for the suggestion.

Steve, I think what you are saying is what he already did. He has the files on his desktop that he took from the disk but I am going to check to make sure that he has them all. He may have only put what he thought he would need for the game. Thank-you.

You can also do this with alcohol 120% by creating a virtual cd player and copy all your games to the virtual cdplayer and save wear and tear on your games cd. I believe that even nero will allow it to as it willl also set up a virtual cd-rom/rw or what ever.
Any way you don't have to paste or anything. Just copy and click on the virtual player(will have an asigned drive letter) and then click on game icon and open to start game. Besides all that alcohol makes exact duplicates of just about anycd, dvd, what have you.

Ive tryed doing this with games for ages.. you cannot just copy the fies on the cd to your computer because it wont work ive tryed it over and over again.. There is probably like something hidden on the disk or something. I think the best thing to do would be to download the no-cd thing because you have to pay for both alcohol and nero but if you are planning on doing this with alot of games/movies/cd's then i would buy nero or alcohol.

I have the Nero Suite that came with my cd/rw drive. But I haven't heard of alcohol. Excuse my ignorance but what is alcohol? I also tried the "no cd" patch and as soon as my firewall asked about connecting to something-a nother...pay.something I cancelled it. Especially since it was in German.
The wierd thing about all this is that it will play off the desktop if I copy and paste "c:/documents&settings/michelle/desktop/rtc" into the insert disk dialog box. I was trying to figure out if I could just get it to work without coping and pasting.
