recently baught a pioneer 107D dvd burner but had a problem with the burner on my machine so I returned it to the supplier and got a replacement. But the replacement still has exactly the same problem.

I can't burn any dvd-r discs at 4x. Whenever I try to burn a dvd at 4x the burn freezes at any where between 5% and 20% the light on the burner turns off and the burning software freezes although windows keeps running ok I have to reset the computer to gain access back to the dvd burner and remove the offending disc.

I have tried all media brands Princo, Digi Media & Ritec G04 DVD-R 4x.
and software packages. Clone DVD. Roxio Cd Creator 6. Nero 6.3.0.3 and dvd shrink.3.1
All with same freezing results.

My computer is configured as follows:
AMD XP 2600+
Giugabyte GA-7VT600 Motherboard
1 x 512mb pc 3200 DDR 400 memory
Seagate 120gb (primary master)
Seagater 40gb (primary slave)
pioneer 107D DVD burner (secondary master)
Pioneer 116 DVD ROM (secondary slave)
Windows Xp Professional
3com ethernet pci
agp tnt2 vga card
sb live 5.1
real magic hollywood plus pci
Dynalink tv card pci with brooktree chipset
ISO 400watt power supply.

mmmn...

are you trying to copy from your DVD-ROM to your Burner? If you are there might not be enough room on one IDE cable for all that data...

the IDE cable could possibly be damaged/faulty...

The power supply could be underperforming, or it might simply not be enough power. It seems unlikely as 400W is a lot but it's not outside the realm of possibility.

Maybe the cable running from the PSU to your Burner is faulty? try switching it with the one for your DVD-ROM...

This might sound insulting but you aren't running other programs while burning right?

By the way I have a 106D and I couldn't be happier with it...

Ok...if you have nero 6.3.x.x installed, run start smart and choose nero info tool..located under the nero toolkit header.

This will tell you all you need to know about the set up of your drives. It will also tell you what firmware you have installed for each of your drives too.

Once it has done reading your drive info...choose the configuration tab and then press the floppy icon located at the top of the window. In the new window that appears....make sure all the boxes are checked and press save.
Save this as drives.txt on your desktop.

Then could you email the txt doc to bleem_423@hotmail.com and I will have a look at it. (if you paste it into here its gonna be massive :) )

A problem like this isnt easy to diagnose due to all the different factors involved..Ie..aspi layers..burning software conflicts...firmware etc etc...
Also the set up you have regarding which ide channel your drive is on and what else shares this channel with your drive etc etc...Is it set as master/slave...etc etc...

Anyway..its up to you..if you can mail me this , I will glady help out.. If you want to post it in here for all to read no probs...
