Hello This is regarding the switch -a in PING command that find outs the hostname.

on a win98 PC, if I give the command
Ping -a 192.16.1.15 , it pings and give the hostname 'sales7', where Sales7 is name of that PC.

If I try the same command on Win XP, it pings but doesn't display the computer name 'Sales7'.

How to get the host name by using Ping command in XP?

expecting early replies,
Thanking you.

If you just want a reverse name lookup, then just use the tool that's designed to do just that:
nslookup -type=ptr <IP>
