Comment:
I downloaded picture files from a Windows 98 computer to a CD drive (CD/RW). The 98 crashed, and was replaced with Windows XP (Home edition). The CD'S CANNOT be read with the Windows XP OS. Is there software that will enable me to read the files on Windows XP?

its not a OS issue. its a burner software issue. sounds like you may have written the files in UDF format. if this is the case you need to install a UDF reader to read the cd. Should be on the burner software cd.

You can also open up UDF written CD's with a program called ISOBuster

You do not mention if you used CD-RW or CD-R disks to write these pictures to. If you used CD-RW's I can understand your problem. CD-RW's are very unstable and a CR-RW written on one drive often cannot be read in another drive or another OS. These are not good disks for data storage and should not be used for same. Use CD-R's instead. You might try these cd's in different computers and see if one of them will read the disk. You may get lucky.
