Hi,
I have several problems that I hope someone can help me with. Firstly, On the main boot up screen (black) it asked me one day if i wanted to set my puter to default and I think I said yes because here is a list of problems I am having.
1. I am repeatedly getting the Physical Memory Dump screen.
2. On the black boot up screen where it says Pri Slave....mine is not detected
3. On the black boot up screen my SMART is capable but disabled
4. I now have 4 network connections. SiS 900 based PCI ethernet... recently showed up. I dont remember ever seeing that one before. I believe its an audio driver or something. I disabled it and keep getting the Physical memory dump screen. It wants me to set up a network, and I dont think i want to do that. Unless this is an upgrade? Can I just delete it? It shows up in Add/Remove programs"?I have a cable modem, and before these problems started, I only remember seeing Local Connection and Local connectioin 2.
If there is anyone out there that can help with all or some of these problems, I would really appreciate it.
Thanking you in advance,
Nanette

First. Put your XP CD into your CDROM and close it out when it auto launches. Then click on Start/Run and type sfc /scannow and click ok. Let that run and finish. Then I would go into device manager and look for problems that it has flagged. Usually with a ? or an !. Right click them and choose properties to determine the problem. Then, If it is a driver issue I would right click it and choose remove. As far as your extra network connection. I would delete all those that don't belong there. Reboot your computer. Windows should auto detect the hardware that you removed from device manager and reload the drivers for them. If you Primary slave device doesn't show up then you may have to enter your BIOS setup and identify the device for your computer. If that doesn't work then the Primary slave device may be dead and will need to be removed from the computer or replaced.
Good Luck.

P.S.> If you are unable to reach the desktop you can run system file checker from the command prompt. Just toggle F8 during bootup to bring up the hidden menu and then choose command prompt. Once you get the C:> prompt then type sfc /scannow and hit enter. The XP CD has to be in you CDROM for this to work. As a last resort you could boot from the XP CD and just reinstall windows on top of itself without formatting and you won't lose any files. Once you get your hardware straightened out then Enter your BIOS setup usually by pressing the delete key during bootup and load the optimized defaults for your machine. You should be able to find this with relative ease.
Good Luck.
